Brookfields' Lions Club
23rd ANNUAL ICE FISHING DERBY
HAS BEEN CANCELLED
WE HAVE CANCELLED THIS YEAR'S DERBY DUE TO THE ICE CONDITIONS ON THE PONDS IN OUR AREA. WHILE THE MAJORITY OF THE ICE IS SAFE, THERE ARE MANY AREAS THAT ARE NOT.
WE ARE STILL HOLDING THE 5 MINUTE CASH DRAWINGS SATURDAY AT THE BOAT RAMP ON QUABOAG POND TOTALING $5,000.00 TO BE AWARDED. THIS YEAR'S RAFFLE TICKET SALES WILL
BE HELD UNTIL NEXT YEAR TO BE COMBINED WITH NEXT YEAR'S RAFFLE. THIS YEAR'S SALES WAS MINIMAL BUT WILL BE HONORED AND KEPT TRACK OF FOR NEXT YEAR'S EVENT. THE
BROOKFIELDS' LIONS CLUB HAS A HUGE MONETARY COMMITMENT TO THE UNDERTAKING OF THIS DERBY WITH NO GUARANTEE OF RECOUPING OUR INVESTMENT. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME
WE HAVE CANCELLED THIS EVENT AND STAND TO LOSE THOUSANDS THIS YEAR. BY PURCHASING A TICKET AHEAD OF TIME, IT HELPS US OFFSET OUR COSTS AS WE STILL HAVE A GUARANTEE OF $5,000.00 IN CASH DRAWINGS REGARDLESS OF CANCELLATION. ALONG WITH A LARGE OPERATING COST COMES A HEAVY FINANCIAL LOSS THIS WHICH WE WILL NOT RECOUP. WHILE WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THE DERBY, OUR NUMBER ONE CONCERN IS THE SAFETY OF ALL INVOLVED. HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL AT NEXT YEAR'S DERBY. THANK YOU
We are celebrating our 23rd Annual Ice Fishing Derby. Thank you to everyone who has helped support our fishing classic over the years. Remember that we have a one fish per category per ticket entry limit rule. You can look at the success it had by noticing all the different winning names in our fish categories. It spreads the prizes out more evenly. Please take the time to read our flyer for our minimum lengths required before bringing in your fish. Our lengths are much larger than state requirements.
The children's division will be under the rule of only one fish per category per ticket. This will also help disperse the prizes out to more children. In the children's division we are going to use the state minimum lengths to assure our awarding all prizes, consisting of fishing poles and gift certificates. The children will still have to meet the derby minimum lengths required to compete in the adult division. For example, the state requires a 12" bass length for a keeper, while we have a 19" minimum for our derby lengths. This will allow our young angler who catches a 15" bass to compete for the children's division, but doesn't have the minimum for our derby. If a child brings in a 19" bass, then they would also have a chance for the leader board prize money. The children's derby has a 2:00 p.m. closing to free up some time for the 4:00 p.m. closing of the derby.
THERE WILL BE FOOD AVAILABLE AT THE BOAT RAMP THIS YEAR
The Armand Flamand Calico Bass Memorial Award is still part of our prize money this year. To be eligible, you must be part of the final leader board winners in the calico bass division. These names will be put in a hat with one lucky winner of $250.
THERE ARE NO WEIGH STATIONS AT WEBSTER LAKE AND HAMILTON RESERVOIR THIS YEAR
We will have WARE 1250AM broadcasting a live update for the leader board weights. Please listen to this station as they will broadcast hourly updates for minimum weights to surpass fish already weighed in. This is a tremendous conservation benefit allowing the fish to be released back into their own waters instead of bringing to the weigh station. The broadcast updates will be from Saturday 8:00 a.m.to 2:00 p.m. There Is No Cell Phone Hotline - WARE Radio Will Announce Updates On The Leader Board Weights. Please take the time to use these services as releasing as many fish as possible helps guarantee future possibilities of catching that trophy in the years ahead. Winners will be posted on our website www.brookfieldslions.org. If you don't have access to a computer, the winners will be sent to all our store vendor locations.
AT 3:30 P.M., LAST CALL WILL BE MADE FOR THE FINAL WEIGH-INS AND TICKETS WILL BE HANDED OUT TO THOSE IN LINE
ANYONE IN LINE AFTER LAST CALL WITHOUT A TICKET WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO WEIGH IN THEIR FISH
We have also expanded into some new locations for ticket purchases. Please help support these stores in purchasing your bait, equipment, etc. They are a tremendous help in the sale of tickets. Check out our new locations in our flyer. This year's raffle will have the 8" Jiffy Stealth Auger, Shanty, Trolling Motor, Tilts & Basket, and a Second Set of Tilts. Last year's raffle went well and I am trying to build these prizes from year to year.
IF THERE IS STILL NO ICE BY THURSDAY, JANUARY 26TH AT 6:00 P.M., WE WOULD THEN CANCEL THE DERBY FOR THE YEAR
WE WILL STILL HAVE THE 5 MINUTE DRAWING PRIZES "ONLY" AT THE BOAT RAMP ON JANUARY 28TH IN THE EVENT OF DERBY CANCELLATION
This derby is a large undertaking by our club. Hundreds of hours are spent each year along with a heavy financial commitment by our club with no guarantee of recouping our investment. Please help support our event by purchasing a ticket ahead of tirne. The Brookfields'Lions Club depends heavily on this fundraiser to be able to give back to our communities. Monies raised will be spent helping many less fortunate who depend greatly on our contributions.
PLEASE REMEMBER to get your vehicles off the road, be courteous to our neighbors, pick up after yourself and after someone else that may be less conscientious. Have a great day and we'll see you at the boat ramp. Thank You! GOOD LUCK TO EVERY ONE!
