Saturday - January 30, 2010
POSTPONEMENT DATE: February 27, 2010
Weigh-Ins 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
We are celebrating our 21st Annual Ice Fishing Derby . Thank you to everyone who has helpedover the support our fishing classic years. Remember that we have a one fish per category per ticket rule. You can look at the success it had by noticing all the differentnames in our fish categories. It spreads the prizes out more evenly. Please take the time to read our flyer for our minimum lengthsrequired before bringing in your fish. Our lengths are much larger than state requirements.
The children's division will be under the rule of only one fish per category per ticket. This will also help disperse the trophies out to morechildren. In the children's division we are going to use the state minimum lengths to assure our awarding all the trophies and McDonald'sgift certificates. The children will still have to meet1he derby minimum lengths required to compete in the adult division. For example, thestate requires a 12" bass length for a keeper, while we have a 19" minimum for our derby lengths. This will allow our young angler whocatches a 15" bass to compete for the trophy division, but it doesn't have the minimum for our derby. If a child brings in a 19" bass, thenthey would also have a chance for the leader board prize money. The children's derby has a 3:00 p.m. closing to free up some timefor the 4:00 p.m. closing of the derby. THERE WILL BE FOOD AVAILABLE AT THE BOAT RAMP THIS YEAR
The Armand Flamand Calico Bass Memorial Award is still part of our prize money this year . To be eligible, you must be part ofthe final leader board winners in the calico bass division. These names will be put in a hat with one lucky winner of $250.
CHANGES THIS YEAR:
We will have WARE 1250AM broadcasting a live update for the leader board weights. Please listen to this station as they will broadcastevery % hour updates for minimum weights to surpass fish already weighed in. This is a tremendous conservation benefit allowing the fishto be released back into their own waters instead of bringing to the weigh stations. The broadcast updates will be from Saturday 8 :00 a.m.to 2:00 p.m .. In the event that you can't receive the radio's signal where you're fishing, we will still have the cellphone hotline for backupupdates. Please take the time to use these services as releasing as many fish as possible helps guarantee future possibilities of catchingthat trophy in the years ahead. This year's winners will be posted on our website (www.brookfieldslionsclub.org). Look for this in ourflyer. If you don't have access to a computer, the winners will be sent to all our store vendor locations along with being published in theWorcester Telegram. We have added another weigh station in the area to help provide better service. It's located at PJ's in Holland, MA atHamilton Reservoir. Along with our Webster Lake town beach weigh station, we are very pleased to offer these locations to help alleviatepressure at our derby headquarters at Quaboag to get all the fish weighed at the end of the day. The fish can be weighed there and theinformation will be phoned in to derby headquarters. An additional benefrt is the ability to release fish back into their own waters. One thingto keep in mind is that these scales that weigh the fish are state certified each year to guarantee all weights are precise. Weigh in times atWebster Lake and PJ's will be 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This will allow our crew time to head back to Quaboag Pond for the end of derby.
AT 4:00 P.M., LAST CALL WILL BE MADE FOR THE FINAL WEIGH -INS AND TICKETS WILL BE HANDED OUT TO THOSE IN LINE.ANYONE IN LINE AFTER LAST CALL WITHOUT A TICKET WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO WEIGH IN THEIR FISH
We have also expanded into some new locations for ticket purchases. Please help support these stores in purchasing your bait, equipment, etc. They are a tremendous help in the sale of tickets . Check out our new locations in our flyer. This year's raffle will have the 8" JiffyStealth Auger, Trolling Motor and Tilts & Basket. Last year's raffle went well and I am trying to build these prizes from year to year.
THE BACKUP CELL PHONE HOTLINE IS STILL AVAILABLE FOR THE DERBY LEADER BOARD WEIGHTS.IT'S A RECORDED MESSAGE ONLY AND WILL BE UPDATED EVERY HOUR.
The derby has a postponement date this year . In the event of no ice for January 30, it will be postponed to February 27. WeWe will decide by Thursday, January 28 at 6:00 p.m. The postponement and cell numbers are listed below. If there is still noice by February 27, we would then cancel the derby for the year.
